Town of Rostov-the-Great

This ancient city in Yaroslavl province dates from 862 when it was first time mentioned in Russian chronicles. It belonged to Rostov-Suzdal principalities at different times but since 1207 it has been called Rostov Veliky (Great) as a capital of the Rostov Principality
Being one of the ancient Russian cities Rostov has preserved many beautiful architectural monuments, including the Cathedral of the Assumption (16th c.) in the center of Rostov Kremlin, the Church of St John the Baptist (16th c.), the Church of the Saviour (na Senyakh), another one on Market Place (17th c.) and many boyars chambers and urban estates of the nobility.
Also town is famous by majestic panorama of churches overlooking Nero Lake.
